Hackney Gardens, Hackney Central
Thornsett, in partnership with St. John at Hackney Church and the London Diocesan Fund, obtained planning for this development which delivered a new community hub and part funded the cost of much needed restoration work to this magnificent listed church dating from the late 18th Century. The new state-of-the-art community hub provides a new home for the local scouts group and new community spaces for Hackney Church. In order to facilitate the development, the proposals involved the construction of 58 apartments overlooking this conservation area setting. The sensitivity of these proposals, on this key heritage site, were of the upmost importance as we consulted and formulated our planning application. Construction completed in May 2020. Housing Design Awards 2021 - Urban Design London Award Winner.
